There is a reason why this marketing blog has been neglected and it’s not something that I particularly wanted to share.

And, to some extent, I won’t.

However, today I received in the mail a book and it was a reminder that ‘everything happens for a reason’.

I travelled around the world twice in six weeks for business and when you do such an exhaustive trip like that, twice, you immediately get a feeling that ‘it had better be worth it’. Fortunately, it always is. Afterall, its a journey and when we embark on any journey with an open and honest mind, we move that step forward to realising whatever it is that we were meant to realise.

It’s no different to Justin Bieber, the Venture Capitalist, reportedly having earned $108 million over the past two years investing in tech startups like Spotify becoming complacent because you think you have made it or everything is going swimmingly well, could be your biggest downfall.

Justin Bieber is more than a pretty face. He is that of course, but he is also well and truly aware that it may not last forever. Rather than just continue the ride, he is astutely embarked on a second career as a Venture Capitalist, ensuring that not only will he have a life after the good looks fade, but money to boot.

Opportunities don’t come past your desk everyday. Sometimes you have to work so hard to find an opportunity that when one lands on your lap, you don’t really know what to do with it or you forget what it actually looks like.

There are so many things we all can relate “Make hay while the sun shines” to. Here are some that I think you should consider;

If someone offers you a chance to hang out on their farm for the weekend – do it!

Every now and again, this blog gets personal. Very personal.

Today is one of those days. Not because I feel particularly inspired to share how I am feeling, but as I am sitting here on a Sunday, enjoying the Spring breezes through my balcony opening, I thought I would share with you something that a former Monk shared with 800 people at a conference I attended in Istanbul.

Sometimes, life doesn’t go as planned. And that is ok.

As we continue to embark on the journey of life, we will experience it in it’s enormity. Sometimes we will be so happy, we will literally want to pinch ourselves. Other times, we will be grateful and know that we are lucky to be in the position in life that we are in. There will be times where we will be sad and disheartened, but those, we hope will be few and far between. They will only help us build character and learn what we want out of life and what we do not.

Social media has hit a new high. It no longer is something that businesses can think about including as part of their marketing strategy. It now is something NO BUSINESS can afford to not include.

During the week, I had a conversation with another provider for one of our clients. They are basically graphic designers who have done the odd website development. From my conversations with them, I am almost certain that the website developer is either a freelancer or a graphic designer who has learned to use WordPress. There are some things that are really obvious in the work they have just completed.

In the past week, we have been organising media interviews for a financial services firm. Our inhouse PR expert is very talented and well-connected, and has organised more than 13 interviews for an international money markets expert. The thing is, this was done, all without using their media kit. Why? Because it is a bit out of date and doesn’t represent the company and how forward thinking the company really is.

This got me thinking. What should go in a press kit (or media kit) in 2012?
